Japanese Language Class Adult Level 5 Fall 2025

Ages:   16 ~ Adults

Dates:  Wednesday evenings, Sep 10 ~ Dec 3, 2025 

                                            (12 classes; no class Thanksgiving week)

Time:    6:00 ~7:00 pm

Location:  Classes will be offered via Zoom, as this facilitates those who would otherwise have to travel to a school location, go on business trips, have after school activities, get stuck in traffic, have to be at home, work late, etc.  The instructor will send out the Zoom link a few minutes before each class.  You can also save the link to access subsequent classes.

Class Content: We will do a very brief review of hiragana, katakana, and add a moderate number of kanji.  Additionally, we will continue to advance sentence and question grammatical patterns that lead to holding conversations.  In the Genki text (see below), we will start our study on pg. 219, the Practice pages of Les. 9.  Of course, cultural aspects of the Japanese will also be included to facilitate learning the language.

Class:  Class minimum is 3 for the class to make and maximum is 15 participants.

Textbook:   Genki I, Third Edition, ISBN 978-4-7890-1730-5; available from Amazon, BN.com, etc.

If you don’t have this text yet, please be sure you purchase the textbook;  other materials, such as the workbook, writing books, etc., are not required for class and are optional for your personal use.

Instructor:  Roger Pratt.  Mr. Pratt graduated from Sophia University (上智大学国際部) in Tokyo, has a Master’s in East Asian Studies from FSU, lived in Japan for 19 years, and has previously taught Japanese for JASSA and at UTSA.
